Get a mommy makeover to help you feel better about yourself, not because anyone else is pressuring you.
Do I need to do anything in preparation for my mommy makeover?
The most important preparation you can make for your mommy makeover is to be in general good health. If you smoke, stop smoking for at least 6 weeks prior to surgery and at least 6 weeks after surgery. You may need to stop taking certain medications, such as aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs since they can increase bleeding during surgery.
How do I plan for surgery and recovery?
It’s important to clear out your calendar the day of surgery and for 2 weeks after so you can recover properly. Make sure that you plan to have someone to drive you to and from surgery, as well as take care of you for several days after. Prepare to find it difficult to move around and do normal activities (such as cooking, driving, etc.) for a few days. Be sure to prepare to deal with any restrictions, such as not being able to shower for a few days. Dr. Rand and his team will give you a detailed list of considerations before your surgery.
How long will it take to see the results of my mommy makeover?
Initially, you will have swelling after your customized surgery. Swelling will continue to go down throughout your recovery period and takes 4-6 months for complete resolution. Following the post-operative instructions we provide will help you to see the results of your mommy makeover even sooner.
Will I have any scars?
All cosmetic surgery results in surgical scars. These scars will be puffy and pink following surgeries and will start to flatten and fade over the course of the next year or so. We will provide scar-reduction treatment starting about a week after your surgery. Dr. Rand will tell you where all scars will be located and show your relevant photos of them with early and late results depicted. All patients make scar tissue differently.
Are there any potential side effects?
As with any surgery, there will be some after-effects from your mommy makeover surgery. You can expect some swelling. This is very normal and will go down over the course of your recovery period. If you have any allergies, you need to discuss those with Dr. Rand during your consult. A detailed list of most potential risks will be reviewed with you if you decide to do surgery.
What type of anesthesia is used in a mommy makeover?
Mommy makeover surgery does require patients to go under general anesthesia. We ensure that all of our patients have a board-certified physician anesthesiologist with them before, during, and after surgery to monitor vitals. You will get a chance to speak with the anesthesiologist prior to surgery so you can understand what to expect.
What complications are associated with a mommy makeover?
There are possible complications for a mommy makeover, just like any other surgery. These may include bleeding, infection, poor healing of incisions, hematoma, and seroma. Other rare but possible complications may occur as well. Your safety is very important to us. We do everything we can to minimize complications and our facility is held to the highest health and safety standards.
How long will the results last?
If you wait to have a mommy makeover until after you have children, and maintain a healthy weight with regular exercise, you can expect the results to last a long time. Proper recovery is important to this, especially ensuring you wear a surgical bra for the prescribed length of time if you have a breast surgery as part of your mommy makeover. Dramatic weight gain or weight loss can also cause issues with your mommy makeover results. Cosmetic surgery is not an exact science and it’s important to keep expectations realistic and make good decisions that contribute to your ongoing health and fitness.
How can I restore my pre-baby body?
A mommy makeover can leave you feeling like a whole new you. Pregnancy can be hard on the body. Working out and dieting may not be enough to get you back to the body you had before. Cosmetic surgery can be the step you need to get the look you want.
