Lip augmentation is designed to provide fuller lips while rejuvenating the lip area, correcting the wrinkles that form around the lip edges. Although there are several methods available for lip augmentation today, the preferred method uses a wrinkle filler composed of hyaluronic acid.
Who can benefit from lip augmentation?
If you desire fuller lips with more kissable area, then lip augmentation could be right for you. An injection of Juvederm or Restylane can enhance shape and add volume to the lip area. Lip augmentation may also correct several cosmetic imperfections such as the following:
- Thin lips
- Flat lips
- Wrinkles around the lips
- Asymmetry of the lips
- Vertical perioral lines
Dr. Rand can evaluate each patient on a case-by-case basis. Patients who are prone to skin eruptions near the lips are often advised to skip lip augmentation and should notify Dr. Rand before proceeding.
How the Lip Augmentation Procedure Works
Lip augmentation involves the injection of a wrinkle filler to plump the lips. This procedure uses topical anesthesia or a dental block to ensure comfort. The filler is injected along the lip lines with extra care taken to preserve their natural appearance. Injections can be placed to augment the upper and lower lips and also to shape the Cupid’s bow.
After your injection, the doctor may briefly massage the area to ensure a smooth result and ice may be applied for 20 to 30 minutes.
What to Expect After Lip Augmentation
After wrinkle filler injections, many patients return to work or their regular activities immediately following the injections. You will see the results of lip augmentation immediately. Results of hyaluronic acid fillers provide results that last 3 to 6 months or longer. The most common side effects reported are bruising and swelling, which typically subsides in a few days.
