Endoscopy is a surgical technique involving the use of an endoscope, a special viewing instrument that allows your plastic surgeon to see images of internal body tissues through small incisions. Endoscopic surgery has been used for decades in a number of different procedures, including gallbladder removal, tubal ligation, and knee surgery.
The introduction of endoscopic instruments in plastic surgery is a somewhat recent development. So far the technique has been widely used in facial plastic surgery and breast augmentation. The brow lift is one operation in which surgeons have fully embraced the endoscopic technique. Compared to other methods of brow lift surgery, the endoscopic method allows for smaller incisions and a quicker recovery.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
Brow lift surgery, also known as the forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that corrects signs of aging in the upper third of the face. A brow that has descended will often leave one looking tired or unhappy. Other problems such as crow’s feet or glabellar lines may become more pronounced.
Brow lift surgery is designed to correct these problems by gently lifting the tissues of the forehead and restoring the natural arch of the eyebrows.
Who should consider the endoscopic brow lift?
A brow lift can address cosmetic problems like the following:
- Excess upper eyelid skin
- Crow’s feet
- Low or asymmetric brow
- Creases between and above the eyebrows
- Misshapen brow
If you are bothered by one of the conditions listed above, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift. During a consultation with Dr. Rand, you can discuss these cosmetic problems and determine if surgery can provide a solution. The goal is to get a satisfying and natural result; this may require an analysis of your forehead and eyelids and a discussion about your ideal brow position. Good candidates are healthy non-smokers who are capable of understanding the risks and benefits of surgery.
How the Endoscopic Brow Lift Works
The endoscopic brow lift is one of the preferred methods being offered by plastic surgeons today. This procedure uses a small surgical camera to view the underlying tissues of your face. Small incisions (usually 5) are made behind the hairline before dissection is performed and the forehead tissues are lifted and remodeled as necessary. A special fixation technique is used (screws, staples or sutures) to maintain the brow position during the recovery period.
What to Expect After Your Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic technique is intended to be less invasive, so it may require a shorter recovery period than other techniques. Medications will be prescribed to help manage discomfort during recovery. It may be necessary to keep your head elevated for a few days and you may experience some numbness and itching in the scalp. Fixation screws or staples will be removed in about 1 week. Normal recovery time is about 7-10 days, but you may need to avoid rigorous activities for several weeks.
